Where Chicken is King...

This past weekend was the annual Delta Chicken Festival. This is a fun small town style summer festival complete with carnival rides, midway games, live entertainment, etc. The main attraction is, of course, BBQ chicken...and a lot of it. We headed down on Saturday after working on the patio so we could get a schedule for Sunday's events. Every year LifeFlight lands one of their helicopters and opens them up for show-n-tell and questions. We always like to be down there for that to watch it land...something very cool about the type of flight technology...anyhow, a very pretty helicopter...hope I never have to ride in one...

While strolling down to the park, we noticed a large group of teens gathering around a couple getting into a bout of fisticuffs, quickly broken up by the Delta PD, How lame do you have to be to get into a fight at the Chicken Fest? Anyhow, we walked around for a bit before going to get ice cream at Smith's Twist-n-Freeze. I do love a small town...

We headed back down the the festival on Sunday to acquire our chicken dinners and browse the Art Show and craft exhibits, we watched LifeFlight come in walked the car show for a bit. I think we were both somewhat exhausted from the yard work and patio work from the weekend.

Speaking of patio work, we are done with the foundation work, which involved clearing a thirteen foot diameter circle of sod and excess dirt and the leveling it, before laying weed block and the center pavers. Now I have to put in about 64 more pavers this week and several hundred pounds of gravel...but when complete, we'll have a nice area to have fires in the cooler evenings.
